Kells Kings celebrate a 6th successful year in aid of Cois Nore.
Cycling fever once again gripped the village of Kells, Co.Kilkenny on Saturday 26th August with over 300 cyclists travelling from all over Ireland to partake in the now well established Kells Kings Cycle. Funds raised each year go directly to Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre to fund the many invaluable services and therapies such as reflexology, counselling, support groups and nutritional advice that are available from Cois Nore for families who are dealing with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. To date over €70,000 has been raised by the Kells Kings cycle and the committee will tally up the 2017 figures in the coming weeks and present another cheque to Cois Nore.
The 116km and 80km cycles were the first to leave the village of Kells. The weather conditions were ideal for cycling enthusiasts allowing the cyclists to take in the scenic route that these cycle routes take in. The 45/40km and 7.5km cycles followed later that afternoon with the cyclists congregating back in Kells afterwards to enjoy some well earned stew, soup and sandwiches.
Each year the cycle attracts more participants with cyclists travelling from further afield each year to participate in the cycle with the cyclists being greeted by warm welcomes in the village of Kells and encouragement from the marshals who come from all over Kilkenny and further afield to guide the cyclists safely back to Kells.
Talking about the day, the chairperson of the Kells Kings said ‘The Committee would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the cyclists and the vast number of volunteers who continue to support the Kells Kings without all these people this day would not be possible’.
Preparation will soon begin for the 2018 even0,stay tuned for updates!. For anyone wishing to get involved in this great event or anyone who think they can help with donations - you can contact John on 087- 6488986.
